Ranbir Kapoor is on a new mission. The hot-shot actor is busy devising strategies to get his former lover Deepika Padukone back. The two, who recently met at a common friend's dinner party and got chatty, seem to be inclined to give their sour love affair a leash of fresh life.

Now, Ranbir has started to distance himself from his co-star Katrina Kaif, who has always been a source of insecurity for Deepika Padukone. Reportedly, Ranbir has reduced his talk time with Katrina which Kats is not amused about.

Ranbir Kapoor's strategy might be on the right track, but will he be able to win back his lady love is something we all are waiting to know about with our fingers crossed.

SRK and Salman Khan, the sworn enemies, after a public outfall last year, were present at the same venue much to the curiosity of the media present. As expected, the cold vibes between the two were pretty obvious. Salman was seen looking angrily at King Khan most of the time, while the rest of the guests present at the occasion were busy keeping the two rivals as far from each other as possible.

At one moment Salman almost seemed to be in the mood to fight, but his spirits were interrupted by Aamir Khan who engaged him in some small talk.

It seems the bad blood between SRK and Salman is not likely to get better given the way the two Khan's conducted themselves at the latest rendezvous.

It has to be the most idiotic start to such a fascinating movie. You wonder where the movie is heading to when an aircraft returns to base after a passenger suffers a heart attack in the feeblest performance ever. But Rajkumar Hirani soon gets his act and cast together to deliver a stunning product. Education is not about success; it's about pursuing excellence and doing what you are passionate about. In the end, success will chase you. This oft-repeated dialogue is beautifully portrayed in the last frame. I have never laughed so hard before leaving a theatre. Hirani actually manages to show success chasing you. Hilarious. Bhaiyya, All is well!

Take a bow Mr Hirani. 3 IDIOTS is a fantastic film, one that every parent, teacher and most importantly students will dig into. Like the jaadu ki jhappi in Munnabhai MBBS, 'All Is Well', will soon be a craze across the nation. Hirani this time looks at the education system. The staid, mechanical ways in which education is imparted where students are like machines. The setting is a prestigious engineering college and at the centre of it all is Aamir Khan, a genius student who likes to see some fun injected in the lectures.

Hirani touches on student suicides; parents pushing students into a field they are not keen on; students silently trying to excel in something they are not passionate about; overzealous students who learn by rote without knowing the meaning of what is going into their head, and also human emotions of how when a friend fails, you feel sad but when the same friend tops in college, jealousy takes hold. All these aspects and more are beautifully woven into the screenplay to sock you right under your chin without sounding preachy. There is a twist too, to spice up things at the interval.

To get to the story, Farhan Qureshi (R Madhavan) Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi) and Rancho (Aamir Khan) are three inseparable buddies. The film starts with Farhan and Raju getting some info on Rancho who has gone missing after their graduation. It's been (5-10) years now. It then moves to flashback. Where did Rancho disappear? Who was he really and what is he up to now? These questions keep you intrigued throughout the movie.

Lyricist Swanand Kirkire needs special mention. His line from the hit song All Is Well: 'Murgi kya jaane ande ka kya hoga, life milegi ya tawe pe fry hoga...' and other songs are quite a revelation. The music by Shantanu Moitra is excellent and dialogues by Hirani and Abhijit Joshi very inspiring. Although Hirani does not take pains to establish the friendship between the three, you overlook that fact because there is lot of meat in the screenplay. The film has been inspired from Chetan Bhagat's novel Five Point Someone. 

SOPHIE CHAUDHARY and HIMESH RESHAMMIYA

Sophie Chaudhary gives Himesh Reshammiya a run for his money as she can sing in five different voices where as Himesh can manage only two. In her latest album 'Sound of Sophie', Sophie puts this talent to use and belts out tracks after tracks in five different vocal tones!

Liking to keep it versatile Sophie feels, as a singer, one should keep experimenting and should be able to sing in different tones.

'My album SOS (Sound of Sophie) allowed me to sing breathy and sexy in 'Manjave', full throat rock in 'Mohabbat', sweet and warm in 'Sari Sari' and arabic style in 'Tu Nahin',' explains Sophie all in one breath.

Crediting her multi-voice talent to music composers Sophie adds, 'Working with different music directors allowed me to sing in different styles and that's something, which is really unique in my album.'

After being away from the big screen for a while now, Minissha Lamba is presently enjoying her holidays in the sun tanned beaches of Bora Bora Islands in Dubai.

The organizers of the film festival in Dubai gifted this holiday to the actress after they watched one of her films in the festival and liked her work. The film titled WELL DONE ABBA has been directed by ace filmmaker Shyam Benegal.

John Abraham is getting ready to play a role in the film that will have an alien twist to it. According to reports, John Abraham will be doing a film that will be directed by Shirish Kunder.

Earlier, Shirish had directed the film JAAN-E-MANN, who failed to create any ripples at the box office. The film will star John Abraham in the lead and title of the film will be ALIEN SAHIB.

Though, John will not play an alien himself, but there will be an alien twist to the whole saga. Apart from acting in the film, John will also co-produce it. The hunt for the female lead of the film is still on.

D. Santosh, who plays the porn-obsessed computer engineer Giri Reddy in this week's release ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR, is a happy man. Not only has he got to act alongside the heartthrob of the moment Ranbir Kapoor, but his performance as the unkempt Hyderabadi is getting noticed.

For someone who had his theatre training under the tutelage of the great Satyadev Dubey, Santosh has had to struggle in Bollywood. He debuted as the firebrand Rajguru in Rajkumar Santoshi's THE LEGEND OF BHAGAT SINGH, and formed the triumvirate alongside Ajay Devgan and Sushant Singh. He was part of an even envious team in Santoshi's KHAKEE, where he had stalwarts like Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar for company. Not much materialized for him since then, and bit parts in IQBAL, TRAFFIC SIGNAL didn't help.

ROCKET SINGH though might change things for him. His Giri is a character who has grown immune to the corruption in the sales sector�but is unafraid to call a spade a spade. It is he who supports Ranbir as Harpreet Singh to launch his own business. It is on Giri's shoulder that Harpreet's Rocket Sales is formed.

Here's hoping that we get to see more of this talented actor.

When the first look of Salman Khan's Anil Sharma directed period drama flick VEER was unveiled, the reactions were quite negative, with the some even resorting to sarcasm comparing Salman's look in VEER to the one he sported in one of the biggest duds of his career, SURYAVANSHI. But what everyone conveniently forgot was that the director of VEER is Anil Sharma, who has given GADAR: EK PREM KATHA, one of the biggest blockbusters of Hindi cinema.

Not many will remember that when the first promos/ look of Anil Sharma's GADAR were out, the reactions that it received were almost similar to what Salman's VEER received. There was a lot of criticism of its old, jaded look with a section of the media poking fun at its trailers especially in comparison to LAGAAN, which was a stylish period film and released alongside GADAR.

However defying all logic and putting all criticism to rest, Sunny Deol's power packed performance created mass hysteria and the film went on to become one of the biggest hits in the history of Indian cinema, netting 70 crores, beating LAGAAN (27-28 crores) and every other competition that came in it's way.

The director of GADAR, Anil Sharma proved once again (after HUKUMAT, ELAAN-E-JANG and TAHALKA etc.) that he is a big canvas director and could handle big budget films and big stars with ease. Even his THE HERO-LOVE STORY OF A SPY received a historic opening and his last outing with the three Deols, APNE managed to survive the onslaught of Himesh's musical extravaganza AAP KA SURROOR and Emraan Hashmi's well made, AWARAPAN.

To sum up Salman's VEER is definitely in capable hands and there is no reason why Salman fans can't expect a GADAR out of VEER. Here's hoping that it does!

She was one of the many bright spots of recent release DE DANA DAN and would soon be seen as a pivotal element in RAAT GAYI BAAT GAYI. Still, Neha Dhupia, who did have a good start to her career with main leads in successful films like QAYAMAT, JULIE and KYA KOOL HAIN HUM, is disappointed that even after being around for all these years, she still hasn't got her due.

"I am disappointed for sure. It has been 6 years and it has been a constant struggle so far. Ok, I am fine with that because eventually I have been able to reach a position that I can hold on to. Still, the only thing that troubles me is the sense of 'why me'? Why it's only me who has to constantly prove herself? Why is there certain lack of opportunities for someone like me who is really sincere towards her profession? Yes, I will continue to work hard but I guess at the end of the day, this has also to do a lot about being in the right place at the right time", Neha comes up with an emotional outburst.

Well, other newly arrived actress may be enjoying a golden run at the box office but Neha isn't giving up. She believes that RAAT GAYI BAAT GAYI, where she has an author backed role, would give her career enough impetus to go for the kill.

"Audiences were with me over the years and now media too has started acknowledging my presence. However, now it's high time that my own film fraternity starts recognizing my effort. The day all three ends are covered - audiences, media and fraternity - would I actually start believing that I have achieved something worthwhile. Till then, the struggle continues", signs off Neha.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan breezed in Kolkata recently to participate in the grand finale of 'Dadagiri Unlimited', a quiz show hosted by his Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Sourav Ganguly.

"Dada ko pakadna mushkil hi nehin, na mumkin hai," 'new Don' SRK said during the shoot at Mohun Bagan football club. ln his one hour stint, Shah Rukh mouthed dialogues from his films, sang KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI and also danced to OM SHANTI OM with Sourav and the finalists.

April 2010 pretty much seemed like an Akshay Kumar double bill in the offering. The twin release of HOUSEFULL and ACTION REPLAY was pretty much on the cards with both films racing towards the finishing line. However, probability for two Akshay films arriving in the same month has gone down with producer-director Vipul Shah a tad too apprehensive about ACTION REPLAY.

"We have to keep in mind the best possible release timing rather than hurrying up the affairs. It's one step at a time", he recently said.

What must also be playing in Vipul's mind is the fact that April already has another confirmed release of Akshay in the form of Sajid Khan directed HOUSEFULL. The release period was locked months back and since the film has been pretty much on schedule with entire principal shooting (which took place across the globe) wrapped up, it may well gain priority over other releases.

Since 2009 had already witnessed five Akshay Kumar releases (CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, 8X10 TASVEER, KAMBAKKHT ISHQ, BLUE, DE DANA DAN) and HOUSEFULL is next in the pipeline, Vipul is expectedly cautious before many any further announcements.

ACTION REPLAY also stars veteran Randhir Kapoor in an important role along with Ranvijay Singh, a popular VJ who was last seen in Vipul's own LONDON DREAMS. Pritam has composed the music for the film which is touted to be a neat family entertainer instead of being an action flick, something that the title (wrongly) conveys.

Incidentally, when the film was first announced two years back, Vipul wasn't too happy with the title and was having second thoughts about changing it from English to Hindi. Given the fact that LONDON DREAMS didn't quite click with the audiences, he may well be reconsidering his decision.

During a recent promotional activity of his film ROCKET SINGH, Ranbir Kapoor startled the gathering when he was asked about getting paired with his good friend Imran Khan in a film. When asked about it, Ranbir said, "I share a great friendship with Imran Khan and we stick together whenever we can, but as far as the matter of working together is concerned, I'm not dying to do a film with Imran Khan. Our friendship has its own value for me and professionally we have no such plans to feature together in a film at this moment."

Though this startling reply raised many eyebrows but it also shows how straightforward and honest Ranbir Kapoor is despite having achieved a superstar status with a string of successful box-office hits. Anyways, we hope Imran Khan too takes this pointed comment with a pinch of salt.

Actress Katrina Kaif has retained the top spot in Eastern Eye's annual list of the 50 Sexiest Asian Women in the world. The British Bollywood babe beat off tough competition from the likes of fellow actresses, former beauty queens, models and pop stars to hold on to the crown she won last year. This rounds off another impressive year for Katrina that has seen her star in hit Bollywood films NEW YORK,AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI and DE DANA DAN and being named the new face of Barbie in India.

In typically modest fashion, the softly spoken actress said: "One has to understand the definition of sexy because it's not as simple as the word sounds. Sexy is not just about the physical equation but about the fact that you would be comfortable with this person being your girlfriend at the same time. You would like to go out with them and at the same time they are desirable. And I think there is nothing more sexy than a confident woman."

The popular countdown was once again dominated by actresses from India who took eight out of the top 10 spots. SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE star Freida Pinto was the highest new entry at No 3 and Strictly Come Dancing star Laila Rouass was once again the highest placed British celebrity at No 4. The top Pakistani celebrity was actress Mehwish Hayat, who came in at No 9.

An interesting mix of high-profile women, this year's list had a number of new entries from around the world and proved that sexiness is not just about looks, but also about talent, personality, style and daring to be different. Eastern Eye's showbiz editor Asjad Nazir, who headed the jury putting the list together, said: "The fact that Katrina has climbed to the top of the Bollywood tree despite being an outsider speaks volumes for her global sex appeal and striking looks. She defied critics and beat off tough competition from Bollywood to stay No 1."
