Diwali 'dhamaka' BLUE has a running time of just under two hours, 1 hour and 58 minutes to be precise. This was recently disclosed by the director Anthony D'Souza. If one muses over the reason(s) it is very simple. The film is a taut thriller that needed to be short in order to be crisp so that it could provide a full on entertainment, edge-of-the-seat thrill, without getting into too may complicated sub-plots, thereby confusing the audience.
CHECK OUT: Akshay back to school for BLUE
Apart from the film being a crisp taut thriller, the short length will also see the film being screened in far more number of shows as compared to other films (read, ALL THE BEST...FUN BEGINS and MAIN AURR MRS KHANNA), which release along with BLUE. This would then mean more viewing, more moolah, especially in its opening festive week as multiplexes like PVR (which are also the exhibitors) can go in for a more a saturated release and hence BLUE can throw up some extremely huge numbers. Real smart thinking on part of its makers, Shree Ashtavinayak!
Well, our patrons will now understand why Ashutosh Gowariker's recent release, WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE? suffered. The reason is obvious, even those who liked the well made film, with a totally novel script, lost their patience as the proceedings dragged on. The director was forewarned about the excessive length playing spoil sport in its box office result, but he did not relent and hence the inevitable fate and loss of revenue, despite a good start at select multiplexes.
