Salman's career best performance in LONDON DREAMS?

Posted by Besteoffers

view LONDON DREAMS movie stills

Let's spread the red carpet. Salman Khan is at it again. And this time around he rocks the show and completely dominates the proceedings. If he was a one man army in WANTED a few weeks back, he is a complete scene stealer in LONDON DREAMS, even with Ajay Devgn as the other lead protagonist.

One can't pin point at Ajay though. He does what only he can in the current set of actors - come up with an intense act. He deserves full marks for that. However, Salman's character, which is that of an underdog, is such that audiences are bound to root for him. Totally bindaas and ever so crowd friendly, he gets the mood of masti and mazaa bang on without turning overboard or crass.

CHECK OUT: Salman and Ajay are beyond hits and flops

With the kind of role that he gets to enact in the film, he could have easily become frivolous by going overboard. However, he shows immense range as an actor and comes up with one of the finest performances of his career.

One expects high degree of drama in LONDON DREAMS due to it's theme of friendship, deceit, betrayal and ultimate redemption. To the credit of Vipul Shah, he does complete justice to what was expected from the film. There are quite a few dramatic moments in the film that keep you glued to the screen.

One had always wondered if 40+ actors like Ajay and Salman would be able to do justice as rock stars. However, as things stand, unlike a ROCK ON, LONDON DREAMS is much more than just being a film about a band. It's a story about human nature and the negativity it brings along with it. In this aspect, Vipul Shah spins a winning tale.

UTV's HARISHCHANDRACHI FACTORY in Oscars race!

Posted by Besteoffers

HARISHCHANDRACHI FACTORY

In yet another testament to UTV's unique ability to pick winners from amongst scores of scripts and movies available for production and distribution, the Company has co-produced HARISHCHANDRACHI FACTORY, which is now India's official entry for the 82nd Academy Awards. The film has been co-produced with Paprika Media and Mayasabha Production. UTV has recently kicked off its campaign for the Academy Awards, which will include a targeted and aggressive media burst and extensive screenings in Los Angeles in October and November.

No one in recent years has won more awards than UTV - from RANG DE BASANTi to JODHAA AKBAR, from FASHION to LIFE IN A METRO, from KHOSLA KA GHOSLA to A WEDNESDAY!, from MUMBAI MERI JAAN to OYE LUCKY! LUCKY OYE! and from WELCOME TO SAJJANPUR to DEV.D. In the last four years, films produced or distributed by UTV have been India's official selection for the Oscars twice before this, with both RANG DE BASANTI and TAARE ZAMEEN PAR getting the nod. No one has more in depth knowledge of how to go about an International Awards campaign than they do and this bore fruit when they won a nomination at the BAFTAs for RANG DE BASANTI!

Plans are now afoot to give HARISHCHANDRACHI FACTORY (HCF) the same platform and to ensure that it gets the opportunity it deserves to attain global recognition. Paprika Media, which has a range of custom-publishing platforms, has been keeping a close eye on the Indian film scene in the pages of its Time Out magazines in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. HARISHCHANDRACHI FACTORY held out so much promise, Paprika Media decided to cross over from being an observer to an active participant. HCF, written and directed by Paresh Mokashi, is a delightful account of the incredible journey undertaken by Dadasaheb Phalke to make India's very first motion picture, RAJA HARISHCHANDRA.

Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO, UTV Motion Pictures said "Over the years, movies that have received recognition by the Academy have been those with unusual themes and uplifting stories of the triumph of the human spirit in the face of adversity. With a tight running time of a little over 90 mins, HCF has the ability to reach out to international audiences in a grammar of film-making they are conversant with. We will go all out to ensure that it gets the best chance possible to do India proud."

Vikas Bahl, Chief Creative Officer, UTV Motion Pictures, said, "HCF has all the hallmarks of those very few special films that can cut across barriers to touch a chord amongst audiences, regardless of cultural background or language. We are proud to be bringing worldwide audiences a film that tells the story of the birth of film making in India - the world's most prolific film producing nation."

According to Paresh Mokashi, writer-director, HARISHCHANDRACHI FACTORY, "What better than to have one's debut film about the making of India's debut film. My search for the subject of my film was over when I first read the adventures of Dadasaheb Phalke in trying to make his first film. It was a story that was full of hope, inspired awe and optimism, and I've tried to bring these elements alive in the film. Selection to Oscars is a very sweet surprise and now I'm hoping for the best. And I'm really glad to have the support of UTV and Paprika Media in this venture"

Smiti Kanodia, Founder & Chairperson, Paprika Media Pvt. Ltd. said, "After hearing Paresh's narration of the script, we were totally gung-ho about co-producing such a splendid portrayal of Dadasaheb Phalke in HARISHCHANDRACHI FACTORY. This movie effortlessly captures the essence of his character, showcasing some of the finest performances given by the actors, the music composer and those behind the camera, making it complete Oscar material!"

UTV will also be entering the film for the Golden Globes and BAFTA awards this year.

It is almost an open week this Friday with LOVE KA TADKA, FRUIT N NUT and BAL GANESH 2. None of the listed releases are expected to achieve anything significant, with the possible exception of FRUIT N NUT at a few select multiplexes. The animated BAL GANESH 2 has the potential to attract the children but it should have been released during the holiday period.

FRUIT AND NUT

FRUIT AND NUT

Coming to the by now well known Diwali face off, the outcome turned out to be quite one sided during the festival days, and the picture changed somewhat after that. The battle was comprehensively won by BLUE during the first weekend, both in India and overseas, though Sunday onwards ALL THE BEST showed a remarkable pick up, based on good reviews and positive word of mouth. The third release, MAIN AURR MRS. KHANNA was a non starter and showed little or no improvement to finish a poor third, though it pipped ALL THE BEST to the third spot in the Overseas. Now to the details.

Asin: Salman didn't bring his personal problems on sets

view LONDON DREAMS videos

Asin is truly impressed with her second Khan co-star, Salman Khan. While she has already come out in his defense by stating that 'all negative stories about him are cooked up', she also maintains that he didn't allow his personal problems to come in the way of LONDON DREAMS.

She is happy to narrate an incident around the death of Salman's dog. Rather than indulging himself in mourning, he reported for the shoot of the film and did all that his character demanded once the director called 'action'.

"Everyone knows that Salman is so close to his dog. Even though when his dog died, he didn't call to cancel the shoot for that day. Instead, he turned up for the shoot in Karjat. It would have been even more difficult since he had to shoot for a happy and rejoicing song", Asin narrates.

CHECK OUT: Vipul cuts Salman and Ajay's pay!

Even in front of the camera, she didn't face any issues working with Salman. Just like Aamir, Salman too just went ahead with his part and didn't interfere in the way Asin wanted to approach her scenes.

"Whether it was Aamir in GHAJINI or Salman in LONDON DREAMS, I didn't have to make any changes to adapt to their working style. They made me feel really comfortable. I was free to do things the way I wanted to do because Aamir is very chilled out and he goes about his own job without interfering."

"Same is true with Salman. He doesn't come to you and tell you how you should be approaching your character. This is why it was so cool working in LONDON DREAMS", she says.

Releasing on 30th October, LONDON DREAMS has music by Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy with Prasoon Joshi as the lyricist. The film is about a namesake band comprising of Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan, Asin, Rannvijay Singh and Adithya Roy Kapoor. Asin plays the role of a dancer in the film.

CHECK OUT: AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI Music Review

Jay Shewakramani, creative producer for APKGK says "Ranbir is a thorough professional, he was promoting WAKE UP SID the whole day, and was going to join us for APKGK's music release at 6pm and then after shoot the music video, which we had told him would be done in 3 hrs, but due to some reasons such as the use of a motion control camera we started shooting at around 8.30pm which wrapped up only by the next day at 6am in the morning. However Ranbir did not complain even once infact he kept the mood upbeat as everyone was working round the clock, he was totally focused into making a great music video which he knew would be good for the film, with this kind of hardwork and dedication there is no stopping him from becoming a huge star".

He also goes on to say "Before shooting the music video for APKGK Ranbir barely slept for 3 days as he had to fly down from Bhopal and after the shoot fly back to Bhopal. He is putting a lot of effort into promoting his films"

Ranbir Kapoor will next be seen alongside Katrina Kaif in AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI which is a much awaited release of 2009.The movie is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and will release on the 6th November 2009.

Will Ajay be lucky against Akshay?

Posted by Besteoffers

BLUE and ALL THE BEST-FUN BEGINS

The last two times that Ajay Devgan and Akshay Kumar met, the result has been more or less in the favour of the 'Khiladi'. This may sound a bit too confusing for those who are not very aware of the clashes between their films in the past, so will make it clear and support our theory with data.

The year was 2000, when Ajay Devgan and Akshay Kumar clashed head to head. The first time that their films clashed was on August 11, when Akshay Kumar's DHADKAN released along side Ajay Devgan's DEEWANE. Both the films were quite hyped and saw the action stars in romantic roles. Though both DHADKAN and DEEWANE started off on a slow note, DHADKAN picked up and did a very steady business and Akshay was accepted as an all out romantic hero, despite his strong action image. Here we must mention that he was well supported by Sunil Shetty in a lovable negative role that won him quite a few awards.

CHECK OUT: Will Ajay & Mugdha's Diwali connection continue?

Next time the clash was not head on, as Devgan's high budget family drama, RAJU CHACHA, starring Kajol released on December 20, 2000, around a week ahead of Akshay's KHILADI 420, which released on December 29th. And once again the "Khiladi' was in tremendous form as he overtook Devgan's well made but somewhat kiddish RAJU CHACHA. Though KHILADI 420 eventually could not sustain and failed after the good opening, but it did crush any hopes of Ajay's RAJU CHACHA doing favorable business in its second week.

This 'Diwali' Ajay and Akshay meet once again, and both the stars have the support of massive star cast, tremendous hype, chartbusting music and blitzkrieg promotion. From the buzz it appears that both BLUE and ALL THE BEST...FUN BEGINS look set for a good fight at the ticket window and let's see who the eventual winner is.

Though BLUE is carrying a tremendous hype, but Ajay and the rest of the star cast have really upped the tempo where promotion of ALL THE BEST is concerned, so may be Ajay will be lucky this time against Akshay.

Ranbir Kapoor does it again...

Posted by Besteoffers

view AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI movie stills

Though SAAWARIYA didn't garner Bollywood cutepie Ranbir Kapoor any commercial success but he certainly wowed his female fans with the towel dropping act in his very first film and became an overnight star. Such was the popularity that wherever Ranbir went he was mostly addressed by the infamous towel act!

CHECK OUT: Ranbir Kapoor sculpted!

Not only the audiences even the filmmakers were awed by Ranbir's dare-bare-act. And one such filmmaker who seemed to be highly impressed with Ranbir's towel act is Rajkumar Santoshi. Going by the current promos of Rajkumar Santoshi's upcoming comedy AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI starring Ranbir-Katrina, that are on air, one can see Ranbir doing the towel act.

However in SAAWARIYA, Ranbir does the towel act in his much-celebrated romantic ballad 'Jab se tere naina', where the love struck Ranbir croons for his love interest Sonam Kapoor. Whereas in AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI Ranbir seems to be completely in different mood - A playful, full of life, carefree young lad enjoying his own!

Bachna Ae Haseeno....as the female charmer is once again in form!

Short length of BLUE !

Posted by Besteoffers

download BLUE wallpapers

Diwali 'dhamaka' BLUE has a running time of just under two hours, 1 hour and 58 minutes to be precise. This was recently disclosed by the director Anthony D'Souza. If one muses over the reason(s) it is very simple. The film is a taut thriller that needed to be short in order to be crisp so that it could provide a full on entertainment, edge-of-the-seat thrill, without getting into too may complicated sub-plots, thereby confusing the audience.

CHECK OUT: Akshay back to school for BLUE

Apart from the film being a crisp taut thriller, the short length will also see the film being screened in far more number of shows as compared to other films (read, ALL THE BEST...FUN BEGINS and MAIN AURR MRS KHANNA), which release along with BLUE. This would then mean more viewing, more moolah, especially in its opening festive week as multiplexes like PVR (which are also the exhibitors) can go in for a more a saturated release and hence BLUE can throw up some extremely huge numbers. Real smart thinking on part of its makers, Shree Ashtavinayak!

Well, our patrons will now understand why Ashutosh Gowariker's recent release, WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE? suffered. The reason is obvious, even those who liked the well made film, with a totally novel script, lost their patience as the proceedings dragged on. The director was forewarned about the excessive length playing spoil sport in its box office result, but he did not relent and hence the inevitable fate and loss of revenue, despite a good start at select multiplexes.
