What worked for KAMINEY? The 'cool' factor

Talk to people who liked/loved/adored KAMINEY and chances are that 90% (ok, let's make it 80%) of them would have made the statement as above. This has been a common expression of those who have watched the film and though the lingo is pretty youth centric, the fact is that this was the audiences targeted for this Vishal Bhardwaj film and it's this very segment that has made KAMINEY a success that it is today.

The film is being appreciated for it's 'cool quotient' and those who don't really have many good things to say about this superb effort by the makers are being looked at as minority. Worse, they are being questioned if they are not being 'cool' enough! A quick round amongst the 'mango people' fetches following reactions.

CHECK OUT: Don't leave your brains behind for KAMINEY

Says 32 year old Bimal Sharma, a VP at a leading real estate company, ''For someone like me who has worshipped Guy Ritchie's LOCK STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS or Quentin Tarantino's RESERVOIR DOGS, a film like KAMINEY was God-sent. I just look so suspiciously at some of them out there who have complains around the film's narrative. My question to them is that 'Hey, have you ever seen anything outside conventional Bollywood cinema?''

There are some like Neha Sharma, 27 years of age, who attribute the film to excellent marketing. She says, ''The film has worked mainly due to some brilliant product placement. Seriously, it has been pitched amongst the audience in such a way that it made one feel as if it would be a sacrilege if not seen in the first weekend itself. Add to this the fact that you would be called so 'un-cool' and not 'intelligent enough' if you say a word about KAMINEY! That's the way film has been projected! I am glad that I loved the film though I feel pity for those who perhaps haven't but can't dare to come out in open and state the same.''
